A simple, slightly inclined plane located at the heart of Santorini is home to this earthy, yet luxurious villa, a fresh architectural exercise that draws inspiration from the traditional, one-room cave houses that historically inhibited the island. Endowed with unobstructed views over both the sea to the east and towards Fira village to the west, 120 perfectly designed square meters stretch out on a beautiful plot of land, where small fruit trees, dry shrubs, and cactuses create a natural, unobtrusive embrace. A bedroom, bathroom and storage room make up an ideal 60 sqm haven for the introvert traveler in the basement, while the main house on the ground floor is complete with another 60 sqm of a sun-filled open plan living room-kitchen area, bedroom and second bathroom. A small, hidden patio washes the bathroom with the serenity of the sun, as it is reflected on the crisp aesthetics of its curved white rocks and cactuses, as well as the earthy plastered walls. Handmade deco pieces and furniture made with marble, clay and wood, converse with the raw elements of the house, such as local volcanic stone, concrete, and plaster. This is where the communal life of TRACE villa truly unfolds towards the great outdoors: A cool plunge pool invites guests outside onto the patio for a midday dive, or to cook up an alfresco meal to be shared on the long table under the wooden pergola or, why not, take a little nap on the sun loungers, orchestrated by nothing more than the natural sounds of the sea breeze dancing through the shrubs and the meditating song of the cicadas.
